Week 31 Obuasi

Well, IT’S RAINING EARLY! But still way hot when its not raining. Sooooo... it’s either humid :) or hot :(!  Anyway when the rain comes, the powers gone.  This week we had a lot time without power at night.  It made for some pretty uncomfortable nights! But overall this week was a pretty sweet week!

All week, we really just focused on our progressing investigators. Mariam, Helena, and Angela.  They are all doing well and they are very receptive and open to receive the gospel!  Angela surprised us this week.  She is a referral from a RM from Nigeria who now lives in Kumasi.  This week they had a little "misunderstanding.”  So She told us she wasn't coming back to the church.  But what do you know… she came to church on Sunday anyway. Ha!  She even got interviewed for baptism with Mariam!  So that is great!

For P-day today we went for a sweet hike! It is an old abandoned jungle resort for people to come and chill.  The waterfalls are stacked onto each other. So you gotta climb up the side of them.  There were a lot of falls.  I put some pics there so you can all see!

As I said, this week was a cool week!  Even though we had a lot of time in the apartment due to the rain, we got a lot done with our progressing investigators that are preparing for baptism!

My New Bookshelf

I was doing some studying this week as well and finished the Book of Mormon again.  In Mormon 9:31 Moroni says;

"Condemn me not because of mine imperfections, neither my father, because of his imperfections, neither them who have written before him: but rather give thanks unto God That he hath made manifest unto you our imperfections, that ye may learn to be more wise than we have been."

The scripture is pretty self-explanatory! If you do condemn someone go read John 8!  That stuff is also powerful!

Love you all!

Week 30 Obuasi

30 weeks! Wow! This week was not the greatest week in the world! I was sick on Thursday and had to stay in with one of the other missionaries in my apartment that happened to be sick also.  So the week just dragged along, but its life you know? What can you do?

ANYWAY! We had Zone Conference this week. It was needed. The only thing we talked about was the Book of Mormon. Our numbers for baptisms in the mission have been going down.  The only other stat that has gone down with it is the number of Books of Mormon handed out. Get the Picture? The key to success out here in the Mission field is The Book of Mormon.

We were asked a question... What is your favorite scripture in the Book of Mormon? Everyone was asked to share their favorite verse and read it. Then they told us see how the Book of Mormon, even just one verse can inspire you in so many different ways! Then why can it to our investigators?

Our area is doing well. We are having some good investigators progress, Helena, Angela, and Mariam. They are all coming to church and are keeping their commitments to read and all that!  I think they'll have a good chance at being baptized!  The Branch is also doing ok! We haven't had any problems yet!
Brother Robert

This week I was reading in 4 Nephi.  Man that chapter is POWERFUL!  The Book is only 1 chapter, 49 verses, and you can learn the key to LIFE!  In verses 15-17 it talks about how the Nephites and Lamanites where having no contention in the land because of their LOVE OF GOD.  If you remember the scripture "If ye love me, keep my commandments,” well that’s what happened.  No envyings, nor lyings, nor murders, no robbers, etc...  Unfortunately later in the chapter the whole Nephite nation falls away and they begin to have contention again... Why?  They weren't keeping the commandments and there was no love for God!

I love this chapter... the key to life, love God & keep His commandments.

Week 29 Obuasi

Elder Duaryenneh (Liberia), Me, Elder Vaai (Samoa) and Elder Effiong (Nigeria)

Just another week here in the great Ghana Kumasi Mission. This week just flew by... But it was somehow a successful week. In Obuasi we do a lot of finding... like everyday our plans don't work out and we end up just finding haha! It’s cool though! I think I've taught the restoration more in these past two weeks then I have my whole freakin' mission haha!

This week we gained a steady teaching pool.  We found a man named Claytus.  He only has one leg.  We taught him at the home of his friend and he accepted the message very well. He didn't have a phone but he told us that we pass by where he stays all the time... so it was cool.

Later that day we found an 18-year-old girl named Marion. She accepted our message VERY well and has even been reading the Book of Mormon, like on her own, just reading because she likes it!  Next thing you know Claytus comes and says "I told you, you always pass here" haha! Marion is his daughter! DIVINE DESIGN hahaha! So they’ve been doing great and Marion came to church and found out her best friend is our other investigator that came to church!  Claytus didn't come because his disability.  So, that’s ok!

Anyway, I read a book by President Russell M. Nelson called “Accomplish the Impossible.”  It was so good I read it in 3 days haha!  Man you can learn a lot from that book.  One quote that I liked from it is; "Peace can come to all who choose to walk in the ways of the Master. His invitation is expressed in three loving words. "COME, FOLLOW ME."  Later I was studying in the Book of Mormon in 3 Nephi 27.  Jesus Christ asks, "What Manner of men ought ye to be? verily I say unto you, even as I am."

Pretty powerful!  I hope and pray we all choose to follow Him and become even as He is.

Love you all!

Week 28 Obuasi

WELL, just another week here in the GKM.  It was a crazy week!  I made it down to Obuasi just fine.  Man, leaving Techiman was not fun!  Saying goodbye to all the members was not easy!  I hate saying goodbye!  I guess it’s a normal thing out here in the mission field.

Elder Effiong

My new companion is named Elder Effiong from Nigeria.  He's a sweet guy!  I'll be killing him out here in the field, meaning he's going home this transfer.  When I heard that I was nervous.  Turns out he's still got a lot of gas in him and he works very hard. He’s super funny too! Just a good guy!  My new branch, Asonkore, is sweet. We have a cool building and 75 members came. Also 7 investigators!!  The new area is sweet but it’s a lot of difficult walking! Our area is up and down and the bikes are a no go. To many rocks and sand!  So I started to wear my sandals.  I’m wearing the ugly ones now so maybe I can use the cool ones at home! Hahaha!  Our apartment is a celestial one in the mission and the other elders are cool. One is from Liberia and the other from Samoa but no senior couple in Obuasi.

Some of the kids at church

Obuasi is cool! It's freaking Humid. Techiman was soooooo dry! Everything is green here! It’s kinda a bushy area with lots of green hills like Califorina! Until you get to the city, then it doesn’t look like Cali at all! Ha ha ha!! But overall the place is a beautiful place!

Obuasi Hills

This week I put a heart sticker and a piece of paper on the back of my tag. The paper said LOVE THE PEOPLE.  That what’s its all about out here.  I'm almost 100% sure you won't have success in a mission or in life if you don’t have love for those you are around and who you serve. After all, the two greatest commandments are about love.  Love God.  Love you neighbor.  So my advice to everyone is to find love for everyone, even your enemies.

Love you all!
